Our Story

Hello! I'm Barry — your local, friendly (and proudly bald) beekeeper.

While I’m only in my second year of beekeeping, I’ve completely thrown myself into this buzzing world. My wife calls it an obsession — I prefer to call it passion! Beekeeping runs in the family too; my late Grandad was a beekeeper, and as soon as the opportunity came along, I jumped at the chance to build my own colonies.

Today, I care for 12 healthy, happy hives, spread across two beautiful locations nestled in the South Downs of West Sussex. Our colonies of Buckfast Honey bees are a calm, hardworking, and gentle natured breed known for their excellent honey production and strong colony health.

Before starting this journey, I had no idea just how vital bees are to our ecosystem. These incredible little pollinators are responsible for a large portion of the world’s crops — including fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts — and they also play a crucial role in supporting wild plant life, biodiversity, and thriving ecosystems.

As the WWF points out, bee populations in the UK are facing serious threats due to habitat loss, climate change, and pesticide use. But the good news? We can all help.

Support your local beekeepers. Avoid pesticides and weed killers. And consider growing a bee-friendly garden to give our pollinators a safe place to thrive.

Thank you for supporting Bazza’s Bees — and for helping to protect the future of our bees, one jar of golden goodness at a time.
